Surrey County Council Highway Maintenance and Volunteer scheme

Last year many residents and others raised questions and complaints regarding the cutting of our roadside verges and the central reservation on the A217. It now appears this maintenance will, in the future, be undertaken by Surrey County Council (Highways) and not Reigate and Banstead Council. Surrey County Council operates a policy that they call the ’Blue Campaign’ briefly; this policy reduces the frequency of cutting highway verges. Our local Councillors have informed us that the Boundary Commission for England (BCE) is redrawing the national parliamentary constituency boundaries to rebalance the number of electors represented by each MP. This proposed change may affect us. This is not a government initiative. The Boundary Commission is an independent body that ensures parity between the number of electors in each area of the country.
